A fine Victorian-era marine chronometer by T. Bassnett of Liverpool, inscribed “T. BASSNETT 4322 LIVERPOOL” with the maker’s address at 10 Bath Street, Liverpool. Designed as a precision timekeeping instrument for celestial navigation, this chronometer was essential for determining longitude at sea during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Housed in a traditional brass-mounted wooden box and mounted on gimbals to maintain accuracy aboard a moving vessel, it features a Roman numeral dial, subsidiary seconds, and an up/down power-reserve indicator. A historically significant object that reflects the peak of British maritime craftsmanship and the golden age of navigation
